Overview of our research focus
The focus of the Mowat lab's research is to understand the mechanisms underlying retinal diseases of dogs.
Our broad research goals include:
1. Defining the autoimmune basis underlying the neurendocrine dysfunction in dogs with Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome (SARDS)
2. Examining the effect of oxidative damage on the canine central retina
3. Examining new cases of clinical retinal disease in companion animals for possible genetic involvement
